0.75-2.2kW 1 Phase 230V Solar Pump and General Purpose Inverter VFD

Solar Pumping Without a Battery Bank

In a direct solar-pumping setup, the PV array feeds the inverter and the inverter drives the pump; a battery bank is not required between them. Where water is needed beyond the available solar hours, a storage tank can hold the pumped water for later use. If grid backup is part of the installation, configure the source-selection parameters and wiring for the intended operating sequence.

PV Voltage and Module Arrangement

The PV configuration of the 0.75-2.2kW 1 Phase 230V Solar Pump and General Purpose Inverter VFD is based on a single string for each listed model. The DC input is rated up to 450 VDC, with a recommended open-circuit voltage range of 360–430 VDC and an MPPT range of 250–350 VDC. Table B lists a string of 11 modules rated 250 W (37±1 V) or 9 modules rated 300 W (45±1 V). These are the recommended arrangements shown in the product data; confirm the actual module open-circuit voltage, including its increase at the lowest expected site temperature, before finalizing the string. The array must remain below the inverter's 450 VDC maximum.

Motor Output and Setup

The rated output voltage is specified as 3 PH or 1 PH 220 V AC. For a compatible single-phase motor, the supplied setup information specifies U and V output with P8-27 set to 1. A three-phase 220 V motor uses U, V and W with P8-27 left at 0. Verify motor wiring and the parameter setting against the motor nameplate and the product manual before energizing the system.

For the 0.75-2.2kW 1 Phase 230V Solar Pump and General Purpose Inverter VFD, parameter P8-00 selects the application mode: 1 for solar pump mode and 0 for general-purpose mode. P8-15 separately defines source operation in the solar configuration: automatic, solar-only or mains-only. Keeping these settings distinct helps match the drive to the intended wiring and control sequence.

Typical Applications

This range is intended for small-scale pumping and light machinery where the available supply is single-phase 230 V. Solar operation can support daytime water pumping, while general-purpose mode provides speed control for compatible motor-driven equipment.

  • Household and courtyard water systems: Filling rooftop tanks or storage sumps from a well or water source.
  • Greenhouse and garden irrigation: Driving small surface pumps for drip lines and sprinkler circuits.
  • Small livestock facilities: Pumping water to header tanks and troughs on farms and smallholdings.
  • Ponds and water features: Supporting circulation and water exchange where the pump rating matches the required flow.
  • Water boosting: Adjusting pump speed in compatible single-phase supply installations.
  • Light machinery: Controlling greenhouse fans, small compressors, conveyors, mixers and workshop pumps in general-purpose mode.
  • The inverter supports either single-phase or three-phase 220 V AC motor output, subject to the correct motor connection and P8-27 setting. This flexibility can be useful when specifying a drive for an existing pump or machine, but the motor current and load requirements must remain within the selected model's ratings.

The CSIVEI 0.75-2.2kW 1 Phase 230V Solar Pump & General Purpose Inverter VFD can be ordered for solar pumping or conventional speed control. Share the motor nameplate, intended control mode and PV module specifications when requesting a quotation so the model and initial configuration can be matched to the application.

    Technical Highlights

Solar, Grid or Automatic Source Operation

In solar pump mode, P8-15 selects automatic operation (0), solar only (1) or mains only (2). In automatic mode, P8-16 sets the mains-running interval (60 minutes by default) and P8-17 sets the delay before trying solar again (4 seconds by default).

    MPPT for a Single-String Array

The recommended array is one string of 11 × 250 W modules or 9 × 300 W modules. Keep open-circuit voltage within the recommended 360–430 VDC range and below the 450 VDC maximum; the MPPT range is 250–350 VDC.

    Integrated Pump and Level Protection

Underload detection is enabled by default at a 25% level with a 60-second confirmation period. Float switches can be wired to DI2 and DI3, and error E43 indicates a level-probe fault when that monitoring arrangement is used.

Two Operating Modes in One Drive

P8-00 selects solar pump mode (1) or general-purpose mode (0). General-purpose operation provides SVC/V/F control, built-in PID and Modbus RTU over RS485, allowing the same drive platform to serve compatible pumps, fans and other small machines.

    FAQ

Can it run my 220 V single-phase pump?

    Yes. Connect the pump to U and V, then set P8-27 to 1 for single-phase pump mode. Three-phase 220 V pumps connect to U, V and W with P8-27 left at 0.

How many panels does a 1.5 kW pump need?

Either 11 modules of 250 W (37 V open-circuit type) in one string, or 9 modules of 300 W (45 V type) in one string. Both put array voltage inside the recommended 360 to 430 VDC window. Stay under 450 VDC open circuit, which is the drive maximum.

What happens at sunrise and sunset every day?

The drive starts when DC voltage passes the threshold in P8-07, and stops when output frequency stays below the weak-light level in P8-10 (20 Hz by default) for longer than P8-11 (600 s by default). Running a pump below the speed where it moves water heats the motor and wears the bearings, so the drive stops instead of crawling.

Do I need a battery bank?

No. Panels feed the drive and the drive feeds the pump. The tank is the storage, and a tank costs a fraction of a battery bank and does not need replacing.

Can I use it as an ordinary variable frequency drive?

Yes. The iMaster is built for both jobs, and parameter P8-00 is what selects between them. In general-purpose mode it behaves as a standard inverter with SVC or V/F control, built-in PID, Modbus RTU over RS485 and the full protection set. Tell us which mode the unit has to run in when you order and we configure it before shipping. A unit already in solar pump mode is switched to general-purpose by setting P8-00 to 0, so stock bought for one job can still be sold into the other.

How do I evaluate one before a volume order?

Send us the model and the project. We quote the sample and the volume price together so you can compare landed cost before committing, and OEM branding can be applied to the evaluation unit so you see what your own label will look like.
